Ren. Fest
Current mood: chipper
Category: Travel and Places

So, I was in the bread bowl line, Dawne was in the drink line, Mike was in the turkey leg/steak-on-a-stick line and Henry was over in the fish and chips line when I looked over to my right and saw Freddy Kruger. I see that guy everywhere! I guess it isn't 'everywhere' but more like I see him around every Halloween. I took a picture to prove it to you. I'll get that loaded somewhere...

Freddy at the Blowing Rock Monster March, October 2005.

Freddy takin' in the sites at the Dark Ages Festival, October 2006.

The Renaissance Festival - or, as Ben Price more appropriately calls it, The Dark Ages Festival - is in Huntersville NC which is just North of Charlotte. They have a permenant set up and a pretty big area that they fill up with the usual crop of overly-full corsets & men with bad English accents. However, this one has camel and elephant rides and a petting zoo with a Highland Coo. Nice. The only thing that sucked was the funnel cake. I'd been waiting a month for that thing and when I finally got it it was cold and chewy. Damn stupid high school kids working the bakery - I think they were high. I hope they were. Otherwise they are dumber than rocks.

So, it was fun & very busy since it was Halloween weekend. We went with our friends Mike and Dawne and I think we will plan on dressing up for next year's outing (and I'll go to the WoollyWorm Festival for my hot dog & funnel cake fix instead). Maybe I'll start exercising so I can go as Xena. Just kidding - I don't think outfits like that should be allowed once you've turned 30. Like my brother says, "Spandex is a privilege, not a right."

I had to add an update to this since Mike and Dawne gave me my very own funnel cake making kit!!! It is hilarious. One of those 'as seen on TV' things that is ridiculously simple. It was just the idea of it & the fact that I can make my own damn funnel cake any time I want to now! (thought that somehow diminishes the festival atmosphere that surrounds a funnel cake...) So, come on over to Blowing Rock and we'll make a funnel cake for you! :)
